What are Earth Rated compostable bags made from?
Compostable bags contain natural vegetable-starch, PLA and PBAT. They are certified to strict international standards and will break down, in moist conditions, to carbon dioxide and water without leaving harmful residues in the process.
How do I dispose of compostable bags afterwards?
If your local composting facility accepts pet waste, send them there.
Alternatively, you can start your own home pet compost. Making a home compost system is simple - follow the instructions in our blog - or your can purchase a ready-made version from the likes of Ensopet. Please make sure the resulting compost is only used on trees and flowers - keep pet waste compost away from your veggie patch or edible plants.
If they are sent to landfill they will still break down faster than regular plastic but it will take a lot longer than composting.
Are these bags biodegradable?
Yes. These light green bags are compostable, and composting is a specific biodegradation process. They contain natural ingredients and will return to the earth safely.
Are they flushable?
No! As a general rule, stay away from flushing your dog’s poop with or without a bag. It really depends on what water treatment plant your waste goes to, but flushing dog poop can upset water balance due to the high levels of BOD (biological oxygen deprivation).
What is the shelf life of Earth Rated compostable poop bags?
Earth Rated light-green compostable bags are designed to break down, therefore, we recommend keeping them for no longer than 12 months. We recommend storing them in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight.
What is the difference between the Earth Rated dark green degradable and light green compostable bags?
Degradable bags are made from “normal” polyethylene, they are still a regular plastic bag but contain a degradable additive known as TDPA (totally degradable plastic additives). This helps the bags break down into smaller pieces when exposed to sunlight, heat and oxygen.
Compostable bags are biodegradable and return to carbon dioxide and water, leaving nothing behind. Certified compostable bags begin decomposing from the first day in a compost pile and take 90-180 days to break down.
Compostable poop bags are the more environmentally friendly option.
